Admission Requirements

The Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) program considers a candidate’s work experience, industry knowledge, management skills and undergraduate education.

A candidate's professional maturity and managerial experience are highly considered in the admission selection process. The Professional MBA program at FIU seeks a student that can contribute real-world experiences to the classroom, adding value to the overall student learning environment in this competitive degree program.

To be eligible for admission* to the PMBA Flex program in the Chapman Graduate School of Business, applicants must:

  • Show high promise of success in graduate studies
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university
  • In general, have a minimum upper division grade point average of 3.0
  • Provide a professional resume and statement of purpose
  • Optional GMAT or GRE

Application Deadline

The program admits students every Spring and Fall term. Applications and supporting documents should be sent as early as possible to allow sufficient time for processing.

Application Process

  • STEP 1: Apply for the program

    To apply for the program:

    1. Please click here to initiate your graduate application. Select “Create a new user Account”
    2. Enter the intended major Flex MBA, in the online admission form.
    3. There is a non-refundable application fee of US $30.00.

    Only those applicants who have submitted complete applications will be considered.

    Meeting minimum requirements does not a guarantee admission.

    Applicants should not wait until they have all of the materials together to apply. Submit your online application now and the rest of the materials as you complete them.

  • STEP 2: Submit all materials

    Submit your completed application and all supporting documentation to:

    1. Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and/or universities.

      • Applicants with foreign educational credentials in a language other than English must provide us with translated transcripts and diploma(s). Copies of these translations may be sent to us electronically. The transcripts/diploma(s) must be translated by a recognized translation agency or an official translator. Some suggested agencies are found on the University Graduate School website.

    2. Official proof of degree: A notarized copy of the original diploma is required if the degree is not posted on the official transcript.

    3. Current Resume: Detailing your chronological professional experience, specifying employment dates, nature of positions (full-time/part-time), and duties or responsibilities, as well as educational history and dates of earned degrees.

    4. Statement of Purpose: A document of no more than two (2) pages describing how the program fits within your personal and career goals. The essay will be evaluated for applicants' effective and succinct writing skills.

    5. Employment Verification must be submitted to establish professional experience for any position held prior to earning an undergraduate degree.

    6. If required, GMAT/GRE scores – FIU Code: 5206

      • GMAT minimum score of 500
      • GRE minimum combined score of 1000 (154 in Verbal and 152 in Quantitative)
    7. Applicants who hold an undergraduate or graduate degree from non-English speaking countries must demonstrate English proficiency by taking either:

      • TOEFL (minimum scores are: 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, and 80 internet-based)
      • IELTS (minimum score is 6.5)
      • Duolingo (minimum score is 110)

      Test scores are considered official when sent by the testing center directly to our school. When requesting the official scores, please refer to the Florida International University Institution code 5206.

    8. Attend a Professional MBA event or schedule a meeting with a member of our Recruitment team prior to having your file submitted for review.

    9. If requested, applicants must be prepared to formally interview with the admissions team committee prior to receiving consideration.

    Florida Residents: Two proofs of residency. Documents must be dated one year prior to the term you are seeking admissions. For a list of acceptable documents please visit the Florida Residency for Tuition page.

    International Student Requirements

    Please familiarize yourself with the requirements of the University Graduate School and the Office of International Students and Scholar Services. You are responsible for compliance with any and all University requirements. For more information on studying in the United States as an International or Foreign student, please visit the State Department website.

    International applications who require an F-1 Visa will be required to submit these additional documents to complete their application package:

    1. Bank Letter

    2. Sponsor Letter (Waived if applicant is sponsoring self)

    3. DCF form The Declaration and Certification of Finances must be completed and returned to Graduate Admissions. Students with Internet access can complete the DCF form online. Once completed please print it and return it.

    4. F1 Transfer Form (If needed) F-1 students transferring from another institution in the United States must provide a copy of the F-1 Student Transfer Form with a suitable release date from his/her current institution.

    5. Proof of Medical Insurance By Board of Trustees and university rule, all international students at FIU in F-1 and J-1 status are required to have medical insurance prior to registration. Proof must be submitted to the Health Compliance Office at University Health Services. Students will NOT be allowed to register for classes without complying with the medical insurance requirement and will receive a hold on their registration.
      The medical insurance requirement can be met in one of two ways:

      • By purchasing the University-approved policy
      • By submitting an International Student Health Insurance Compliance Form completed by your current insurance company and approved by UHS

      The cost of this insurance is not covered by the program’s tuition and fees. For information on program coverage and alternate compliance, please visit the University Health Services Medical Insurance Policy for International Students page.

    A Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Students (Form I-20) will be issued once the applicant has been found admissible to the University and the Declaration and Certification of Finances has been approved.

    The University is required by immigration authorities to check carefully the financial resources of each applicant prior to issuing the Form I-20. Therefore, it is important that you be aware of the cost of participating in the program and have the necessary support and funding for your period of enrollment. The total funds available for the entire program must equal the total estimate of institutional costs and living expenses for the duration of the program (Estimate of $89,813 for the 2022-2023 academic year.). Please make sure that you provide us with sufficient proof of funds for at least this amount.

    International students must have an I-20 in order to secure F-1 status and participate in the program. Students must secure an F-1 Visa from the U.S. consular in their home country in order to enter the U.S.
